BSUPA Level 1 Instructor Training Course (ITC) 

Dates:
April Monday 2nd & Tuesday 3rd April 2018
October Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st 2018

The BSUPA Level 1 Instructor Training course is designed to provide a professional and structured approach for teaching stand up paddle boarding. The aim of the BSUPA Level 1 ITC is to produce good, competent, keen and professional paddleboarding instructors. The emphasis on the course is around safety, communication skills, professional attitude and conduct as an ambassador for SUP and the BSUPA. 

The course is a combination of classroom-based theory and water-based practical exercises designed to give hands-on experience of teaching. The course provides a recognised qualification to those who wish to develop their careers by teaching stand up paddle boarding in the UK.

When: Two day course for new instructors 2nd & 3rd April. Conversion one day course for qualified water sports instructors 3rd April.

Where: Polkerris Beach Watersports Centre

Price: 2 days £199 and 1 day £145 – includes certificates and manuals

Enrolment requirements:
Paddling proficiency. You must be able to paddle competently in a range of conditions, and navigate/ demonstrate and execute effective paddle stroke, basic and advanced turns, be able to catch and show basic wave technique. Tow and rescue unconscious casualty. Paddle a designated distance in a suitable time frame.
• A valid RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate or above
• A valid First Aid qualification
• Have undertaken helping on a SUP teaching session prior to the course

 
 

BSUPA Level 2 (Tour/Race) Instructor Training Course (ITC) - Monday 9th & Tuesday 10th April 2018

This course allows instructors to teach Ready to Tour /Tour Experience/Born to Ride /Born to Race /Born to Tour to students. It includes a senior instructor element realted to managing a BSUPA school and other instructors and is required in each BSUPA Recognised School.

You need to be a competent SUP rider and an experienced BSUPA level 1 Instructor, ideally with some basic race or tour experience and a good level of fitness. The course covers entry level race starts and buoy rounding and developing the next level of race technique and paddle technique. We cover tours and guided trips and look through the youth scheme and how this works within a BSUPA school. There is time for you to get updates on equipment as well as your own paddle technique.

The course is practical and theoretical, and includes management of a BSUPA School and documents SOP, EAP, AALS, Risk Assessments, safety management, safety planning as well as the specific equipment, conditions and technique needed to deliver Level 2 courses.

Instructor Candidate Pre requisites:

  • 100 Hours as a level 1 instructor
  • BSUPA Level 1 Instructor Certificate;
  • Minimum age 18 only.
  • Riding ability, competent on a range of boards
  • Current member of BSUPA.
  • Display a good level fitness
  • Good knowledge of different locations/conditions
  • Has experience basic level racing or tours
