Fun things to do with Kids at Polkerris Beach

The beach is the most wonderful natural playground. We’ve chosen 15 of our top favourite activities to do with your children at Polkerris Beach...

Build a Sandcastle 

A classic beach activity for kids and adults alike. From the simplest design to the most elaborate, sandcastle building requires imagination, creativity, technical skills and down right hard work! Try Googling for some inspiring ideas!

2 Rockpooling 

When the tide is low, there is nothing better than exploring the rugged rock pools on the right hand side of Polkerris Beach. You’ll discover all kinds of sea creatures and species from shore crabs to spiny starfish to mermaid’s purses.

 

Fly a kite 

On a windy day, what better thrill than seeing a kite soaring high in the sky against the backdrop of the beach with your feet in the sand.  

4 Eat Ice Cream

Whatever the weather it’s always perfect for ice cream! The Hungry Sailor Beach Café serve award winning luxury Cornish Trelevans Ice Cream and Sorbet, made with locally sourced Cornish milk, cream and fresh fruits.

 

5 Hire a Double Kayak 

On a flat, calm day, the best way to embrace the Cornish sunshine is to be out on the water with your kids! Hire a double sit-on kayak to explore the bay together.

6 Boogie board 

Perfect for kids to catch some waves!  

 

7 Eat pizza with your feet in the sand 

Treat yourself and loved ones to lunch or dinner at Sam’s on the Beach Restaurant. As well as being specialists in fish they have a fab kids menu and their very own traditional wood fire pizza oven.

8 Walk the Coastpath 

The coastpath leads right through Polkerris and offers a number of shorter walks perfect for kids such as those to Par, Readymoney Cove and Gribbin Head. Great exercise, spectacular views and the water is great for cooling down after the hike!

 

9 Look for seashells 

Search the beach for seashells and coloured sea glass. Take the best ones home and make jewellery or decorate them. 

10 Have a Group Sailing Lesson

Book a group sailing taster lessons, ideal for kids who want to have a go at sailing for the first time and get out on the ocean and explore the stunning St. Austell bay. 

 

11 Play Frisbee

A classic beach game that’s cheap, easy and can be enjoyed by all ages. 

12 Sign up for SUP Lessons

Book Stand Up Paddle Boarding Lessons for the family (age 8+) and you'll be introduced to the key aspects of Stand Up Paddle Boarding, get out on the water and possibly in it too! 

 

13 Go fishing 

The harbour wall at Polkerris Beach is very popular for fishing off.  Great for relaxing and with a bit of luck you might catch your dinner! 

14 Do a litter pick

Get your kids to roll up their sleeves to help play their part in ridding the world’s beaches of marine litter and plastic pollution. Spend 2 minutes or 30minutes, every piece of litter removed from the beach matters.#PlasticFreeCoastlines

 

15 Mess about in the sea
