Sailing Poem  

Simon McEvoy, Sailing Instructor 

 Sailing is more an art than a game, 

Wherever you go it’s never the same. 

It doesn’t matter what you do, 

You’ll always find something anew.

 Art is similar in many ways, with different views from every gaze. 

Some realist, others abstract or surreal, 

Some you see, others you feel. 

Whatever its form, it has the power to move, 

Lighten your heart or darken your mood.

But darken my mood, sailing never will, 

Even scared witless there’s always a thrill. 

The power of nature cannot be overcome, 

But trying to tame it, NOW that’s real fun! 

** 

It doesn’t matter if it’s a play on a lake, 

Or a voyage of consequence you wish to make. 

Wind and water will conspire together, 

With infinite variations on the weather 

To test your skill in many a way, as a course for fun, you try to lay
