Meet the Team

We have a unique team of watersport experts and enthusiasts with proven experience in training and teaching. Our mission is to keep you safe on the water, teach you how to become a better sailor, windsurfer, stand up paddle boarder or powerboat driver.

Most of all, though we aim to have as much fun as possible on the water!

Marc Hambidge

Chief Instructor

Born and raised near the sea, travelling, yoga, music and outdoor activities are what keep him occupied. A super friendly and approachable guy, he started working as a Windsurfing instructor in 1998 and has worked as an instructor/centre manager for the past 18 years. He previously worked for Tushingham Sails, as Starboard International Brand Manager, and as the SUP Race Director at The National Watersports Festival. He is currently a director for BSUPA, organising the National SUP Surf Series. This, combined with working at Polkerris and being a dad to two cool groms Dylan and Reubyn, keeps him busy! He graduated in Leisure Management and instructs stand up paddleboarding, sailing, windsurfing, surfing and powerboating. For him it’s more than just a career, it’s an amazing lifestyle.

Simon McEvoy

An avid sailor, Simon has been an instructor for over 10 years, has completed a number of single-handed sailing challenges and has his own wayfarer. He believes deeply in the joy of sailing and enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience to others so they too can discover the fun of sailing. He has sailed a variety of dinghies & yachts, and has sound experience of dinghy day sailing and racing. He and his wife moved to Cornwall in December 2016 to be near to their Grandchildren, she is also a sailing instructor as were both of their sons. They all started sailing in 1990 and Simon became an instructor in 1996. He has taught sailing and powerboating in various locations around the UK and was the Training Officer for the UK Wayfarer Association for 3 years.

Adam Eastham

Adam absolutely loves being on or near the water. He has been sailing dinghies since he was 8 years old and then progressed onto sailing and racing yachts and powerboats. Since 2012 he has also developed a passion for windsurfing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. He's completed levels 2 and 3 in a Watersports Diploma at Falmouth Marine School and then went onto Plymouth University to complete a Watersports Management HNC. Adam is also an RYA qualified sailing, windsurfing and race coach. He has previously spent 2 years teaching watersports in Greece and 18 months living and working on the beautiful Tresco in the Isles of Scilly. Adam literally lives and breathes watersports & all things water related. He truly loves meeting new people and taking them out on the water.

Grant Bartlett

Instructor

Grant has been in the fitness industry for 10 years. He was introduced to stand up paddleboarding and immediately fell in love with it. This prompted him to train to BSUPA Level 2 Instructor, which includes Racing and Touring. He is passionate about the benefits of SUP as a fitness tool and enjoys being out on the water and encouraging others to grab a board to experience it for themselves, whether it’s for the first time or to enhance their existing skills. Long distance paddling and racing are his forte and he's had a few podium finishes. Although he still enjoys a slow sociable paddle, taking in the scenery.

Jowan Sleep

Instructor

Having lived a stone's throw away from Polkerris his whole life, Jowan grew up in and around the water. He’s also currently, the longest serving member of the Polkerris team having started in the beach hut aged 12. Throughout Jowan’s childhood he windsurfed as much as he could, competing at both regional and national competitions for both race and wave sailing; during this time he had world class coaching from professional windsurfers George Shillito, Adam Lewis and Ric Cleworth. His passion for being outdoors and the water drove him to become a Windsurfing and SUP instructor. When’s he’s not teaching you’ll find him surfing all over Cornwall as well as scooping the odd ice cream and selling a couple of wetsuits here and there!

Eddie Wrigglesworth

Instructor

Eddie Wrigglesworth or “Wriggs” as he is better known has been driving power boats for many years. A very competent and experienced Instructor he has been teaching powerboating to the Military and police forces across the country. He lives in St Austell with his wife, daughter and 4 dogs. He can usually be found on the water with his dog Tetley who is just as confident on the water as him. Eddie specialises in teaching Powerboating but is also a keen Yachtsman. He has just retired from the Military in which he was an Aircrewman. His passion is not only in flying and boating but also in the teaching of all the elements involved in each one.

Lucy Jezard

Local girl Lucy, began her sailing career at Polkerris whilst at primary school. She attended a half-term holiday taster course and didn't look back! So, began a deep passion and desire to succeed in the sport. Lucy progressed through the RYA stages and was employed at an early age by Polkerris Beach Co. This is her 5th season working here. Fantastically versatile, Lucy loves all water-sports, being a keen stand up paddle boarder and kayaker, whilst also enjoying snorkelling along the North and South Cornish coasts. Lucy is an extremely keen rower in the Cornish sport of gig-rowing, representing Fowey in local regattas as well as the World Championships on the Isles of Scilly.

She has hundreds of hours experience on the waters of St. Austell Bay; sailing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, exploring, you name it, she knows Polkerris like the back of her hand. She has been sailing since she was 7 years old and discovered paddle boarding when she was 11, she hasn’t looked back! At only 16, she is already a BSUPA paddle board instructor, RYA assistant sailing instructor and powerboat driver. Being one of Polkerris’ longest standing crew members, not only is Poppy a fantastic at teaching Sailing, she can also make a mean hot chocolate!
